As a professional, you will need to be able to read and interpret different forms of writing. In this discussion, you will write a response to a literacy narrative.
This week, you’ll explore the genre of a literacy narrative. Typically, a literacy narrative is defined as a personal story that relates how an individual learned to read or write (e.g., picture books, bedtime stories, comic books). For this week’s activities, we are expanding our definition and will focus on narratives that discuss learning something important in life.
Before responding to this week’s discussion, review the reading strategies you learned about in Week 1. Select the strategy that works best for you, and use that strategy as you read 1 of the following literacy narratives:
- “I Became Her Target”by Roger Wilkins
- “Stepping into the Light”by Tanya Savory
- “My Military Service: A Positive Factor in My Life and Career” from the University Library
Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:
- What were the title and author of the narrative you selected?
- Provide a brief summary of what was the narrative was about (i.e., topic).
- Consider the rhetorical situation of the narrative you read. What was the author’s purpose? Who was the audience for this narrative? What clues did you use from the narrative to make an educated guess about the audience? How did the author arrange or organize the information they shared? Why do you feel they chose that organization?
- What portions of the narrative could you most relate to? Why or how?
Response Requirements
- ByThursday, respond to the prompt above in a minimum of 175 words.
